Cremains Memorial Beads

Posted on

I made some more cremains beads this last week – for a friend’s kitty.

I loved how the big hole/charm bracelet beads came out. Actually I am very happy with how all of these beads came out. This was my first time making the silver lined beads with cremains, and I will definitely do it again. I very loosely based the colours of these beads on the colours of the kitty… I used Val Cox Ocelot Spots frit and Val Cox Drama Cream. Both very good animal print frits!

Val Cox Winter Blues Frit

This isn’t a new Val Cox blend, but she is now offering it in #0 size (which I think is fairly new!) – anyhow, here are some of my results from testing yet another lovely Val Cox blend. Loving these small grinds that are now available!

This frit (sold by Val Cox) is a “lovely blend of three cool blue opaques.” This frit was very easy to work with, encased beautifully, etched beautifully too, and created some very pretty reactions when combined with silver foil. It made me think more of ocean blues than winter, personally, although I suppose it has a bit of a “minty” feel to it as well. Very fresh!

Friday Feature – Lampwork Goddesses

Posted on

This week on my Friday Feature I will be featuring the work of some wonderful self representing artist/artisan lampworkers. The theme is “Goddesses” – one that has been explored in depth by the lampwork community, myself included.

Something about glass seems to lend itself well to the curvy female form. I love making these little ladies and I even wrote a book about some of them. To me, they represent the strength and beauty that all women possess. While they come in all shapes, sizes, and colours, and all have very different personalities too, they have one thing in common: they are all beautiful. I like to think of women that way, that every woman has inside her the potential to be beautiful and strong. It’s not about physical looks or conventional beauty either by any means. It’s this power that we all have inside. Women are amazing creatures. And the Goddess embodies all of that.

I did a video tutorial on how I make my goddess beads – it can be found here. Meanwhile, on to the gallery.
