Christmas time is coming 🙂 And it’s Black Friday this week. Not that we really do that in Canada but, well, we sort of do. I’m having a big sale in my main Etsy store to clear out some stock and make a few extra bucks for Christmas shopping. This will only apply to ready to ship items and not custom orders, and only my shop at http://lampworkbyamy.etsy.com/ These are some crazy good prices though and I have a lot in stock, so please pop on over starting at midnight tonight (12am Friday morning) and will go until Sunday at 11pm (both PST). I’m using Etsy on Sale so the prices will be automatically adjusted when the sale starts – you won’t need a promo code or anything. Hope you enjoy and Happy Holidays!
I’ve been doing a lot of made to order work lately and the result is… orphan city! I usually make at least a few extra beads for every set that I sell made to order – I select the best/most matching ones and that’s what gets shipped out. But then I have so many leftovers, which is great because I know there are lots of you out there who aren’t as picky about exact matching shapes/sizes and colours, and who love an awesome deal. This is really unbelievable value.
This is one of my biggest and best orphan lots to date I think. Loads of matching beads here, tons of spacers, and great variety. Mostly 1/16″ hole size. Come grab them before they’re gone 🙂
This frit is sold by Val Cox. “A fantastic blending of several soft opaque colors with a few light transparent tones. Together they give this complex blend a wonderful color-play quality that shifts when paired with silver. Try this blend on the surface or encased for different reactions. Contains a reactive Iris Gold.”
I had some of this frit on hand but never played with it enough obviously – this past week I have been doing some experiments and LOVING the results. It has some similarities to another Val Cox blend, Laurasia, but it’s a lot more on the pink/pastel side. I think they both contain Iris Gold which accounts for the yummy gold tones that come out in them both.

A new orphan lot looking for a home. Available on Etsy. Enjoy!
Here is a frit blend that is NOT a new one… but new to me (or rather, I hadn’t had much time to play with it). Here are some preliminary results. I really love the rich contrasting colours in this blend.
“Copper goldstone adds sparkle to this lively multi-colored blend that shifts between rich blues and pinks in delightful–and somewhat unpredictable–ways. This blend works best without silver foil.”

It’s September again, and all over the place there are kids going back to school (well, not here in BC, but that’s another story). University and college students are starting new courses, moms (well, some of them) are finding a bit more time on their hands. Back to school time is one of my favorite times of year. I love it when seasons change – and my two favorites are Summer turning into Fall, and Winter into Spring. Well right now we are on the tail end of a beautiful Summer, with just a hint of Fall. There’s that little bit of crispness in the air, it’s not quite so stiflingly hot, and we’ve had some rain. I’m not quite into Boot time but starting to think about wearing leggings again. Boots and leggings and sweaters are some of my favorite things… but that’s a bit of a digression from glass…
Anyhow, I think what I like about Fall is the feeling of new beginnings and new possibilities.
I have a new Etsy shop that I’m promoting. It is a Made to Order catalogue of all of my designs (or at least, the ones I am able and willing to reproduce). I still have loads to add to this store from my current “catalogue” and am always adding new designs as well, but it’s starting to become fairly fleshed out already, so please go visit! For 10% off at checkout, use coupon code TGL10PERCENT.
I want to share today some preliminary results another of Val Cox Frit’s new blends – this one is called Pink Incantation. “A richly layered blend of pinks, peaches, willow-green and cranberry. Fuss free. Lovely with silver.” I loved the kind of old fashioned feeling of this blend. It is sort of girly and a bit dainty. Very pretty.

I’ve been away on vacation. Had a wonderful trip to Hornby Island where my husband’s family has a cabin. It’s a tiny little island off of Vancouver Island that takes two ferries to get to. It has many beautiful beaches, amazing local artists and artisans, lots of great food, so many fun things to do. We hiked, we sunbathed, we swam in the ocean, walked on the beach, and we even went kayaking. We took all of our pets and they had a great time too, especially our dog, who learned how to swim (finally at the age of 8!), poked her head into many places she should not have on the beach and in the woods, and even had a summer romance with a golden lab.
Well now I’m back and of course the first thing I did after I got back (well, after unpacking, having a proper bath, and sleeping in a clean bed) was fire up my torch. I recently got an 8 lpm oxygen concentrator and I’m finding it’s helping me to get cleaner and clearer colours and work more quickly and efficiently. I have my two 5 lpm units available for sale on UsedVictoria if you are interested. One of them is sort of pooped out, and the other definitely needs some overhauling, so I am selling them for quite cheap. Unfortunately if you aren’t local it probably wouldn’t be worth your while since I think shipping them would be difficult and expensive. But if you happen to live nearby, here’s the listing for the ad.
Now on to another of Val Cox Frit’s new blends – “First Light” – which I have been experimenting with this week. I have a lot of these sets available in my Etsy store and also on eBay. I’ve been working quite a lot on both of my stores, so you should come have a look!
This neutral blend of pearlescent opaque tones is highly versatile. Fuss free. Good for all seasons. Nice for floral and seashell designs.
This blend was easy to work with, and quite versatile. Very soft and pretty with the lighter transparents but able to stand on its own on darker colours for more contrast.

Another of the new Val Cox Frit blends. I can’t believe I forgot to blog about this one! I am still working with a few of the others and hope to have photos available soon 🙂 eBay orders have had me very busy these past few weeks that I hardly know if I am coming or going, and my torch and kiln are running what seems like nonstop. Big shout-outs to my dad and my husband who have both been helping with the task of cleaning beads!
Also: I have another big lot of orphans available on Etsy. Lots of matching beads here because I was working on a custom order but kept getting the size not quite right.
“Shades of pale blue and violet opaques are paired with a refreshing green to create layers above transparent sapphire blue and amber gold. Dramatic and up beat. Good for all seasons. Fuss free.
I found this blend easy to work with and very pretty. It gave me lots of different results depending on what it was paired with.
