Val Cox Rio Nights
Here is a frit blend that is NOT a new one… but new to me (or rather, I hadn’t had much time to play with it). Here are some preliminary results. I really love the rich contrasting colours in this blend.
“Copper goldstone adds sparkle to this lively multi-colored blend that shifts between rich blues and pinks in delightful–and somewhat unpredictable–ways. This blend works best without silver foil.”

Back to School & Pink Incantation
It’s September again, and all over the place there are kids going back to school (well, not here in BC, but that’s another story). University and college students are starting new courses, moms (well, some of them) are finding a bit more time on their hands. Back to school time is one of my favorite times of year. I love it when seasons change – and my two favorites are Summer turning into Fall, and Winter into Spring. Well right now we are on the tail end of a beautiful Summer, with just a hint of Fall. There’s that little bit of crispness in the air, it’s not quite so stiflingly hot, and we’ve had some rain. I’m not quite into Boot time but starting to think about wearing leggings again. Boots and leggings and sweaters are some of my favorite things… but that’s a bit of a digression from glass…
Anyhow, I think what I like about Fall is the feeling of new beginnings and new possibilities.
I have a new Etsy shop that I’m promoting. It is a Made to Order catalogue of all of my designs (or at least, the ones I am able and willing to reproduce). I still have loads to add to this store from my current “catalogue” and am always adding new designs as well, but it’s starting to become fairly fleshed out already, so please go visit! For 10% off at checkout, use coupon code TGL10PERCENT.
I want to share today some preliminary results another of Val Cox Frit’s new blends – this one is called Pink Incantation. “A richly layered blend of pinks, peaches, willow-green and cranberry. Fuss free. Lovely with silver.” I loved the kind of old fashioned feeling of this blend. It is sort of girly and a bit dainty. Very pretty.

“A rich warm blend of six pink opaques and a touch of Iris Gold. Work cool to retain the pink tones. Work longer to create a golden boro effect. Love, love, love this one!”
Beads & Info by Amy Hall
This one was a bit of a surprise – the Iris Gold in it really behaves differently depending on how it is worked. For me it seemed to strike in the kiln, because my paddle tests didn’t come out the same way the beads did. The colours I got out of this blend were fantastic though. Beautiful and warm.

Val Cox Rise n Shine
Another of Val Cox Frit’s new blends – an amazing orange called “Rise n Shine.”

A lively blend of transparents and opaques that range in the yellow to orange range. The transparent yellows give the impression of radiating light from within when combined with clear.

NOTE ABOUT ORANGE
The yellow and orange colors do not contain lead, which normally makes furnace glass more adaptive in coe. If you are working with Effetre (104coe) or Bullseye (90coe), work this blend on the surface, instead of encasing, to avoid cracking issues.
Orange will become black where it comes in contact with silver foil or a base glass containing silver, such as Effetre Ivory.
Amy’s Notes:
While orange/yellow are not the most versatile colours, these are some of the prettiest combination I’ve seen. They won’t go with a lot of other glasses because the chemistry to make orange/yellow tends to react with almost everything else. But nonetheless, I found some very pretty colour combos, and absolutely LOVED this blend when used with plain old clear.
From my paddle tests, you can see that the addition of silver foil can create some very interesting reactions with this blend, which may or may not be what you’re looking for.

Val Cox Lemuria
Lampwork Colour Guide -> Frit Blends -> Val Cox Lemuria
It’s Friday night and what am I up to? Definitely not out partying. I thought I’d share one of the new blends from Val Cox Frit. This blue-green beauty is called Lemuria.
A tone-on-tone transparent blend between emerald green and aqua blue. Not fussy.
To enhance the blue tones, add Catalina Blue or Oriental Blue. For some sparkle, add Aventurine Green.

Amy’s Notes:
This blend was a wonderful surprise. I am usually not much of a green person, but blue-green and teal are some of my favorites. I got some gorgeous beads out of Lemuria and I absolutely fell in love with it. I think you will too!
